TESTAMENT @ Vagos Open Air, 2013/08/10

Original Portuguese version at Sound(/)Zone.

1173799_619799351386861_792517352_n» Finally, with no need for introductions, TESTAMENT. Chuck Billy‘s voice was hoarse – either from some cold or simply tiredness – but curiously enough, one only noted such hoarseness when he talked, not affecting the songs that much.

The show can be divided in two sets: the first half hour made of songs from their latest work – among them the title-track “Dark Roots Of Earth” and “Native Blood” (“dedicated to all of you, brothers and sisters”, said Billy while opening his vest and showing the Indian skull that illustrates the t-shirt allusive to such song) – and also “More Than Meets The Eye” from the previous album.

Then with “Into The Pit” kicks off the parade of classics which can be called of second set. “Practice What You Preach”, “The Preacher”, “Alone In The Dark”… Yes, many were amiss, but it’s impossible to compress them all in the hour they had left. And the ones played were worth enough.

After “Over The Wall”, the lights didn’t go out immediately, in hopes of an encore. But the night was in the hands of the DJs from that moment on. «
