For my mom
» Due a serious injury of singer Biff Byford, SAXON were forced to cancel their performance in Vagos. But one must be prepared for this kind of situation and Prime Artists immediately replaced the band for another of similar reputation – German GAMMA RAY. As Kai Hansen said, although they weren’t supposed to be there in the first place, “let’s make the best of the night”. And they surely did!
The fact that they also hadn’t set foot on a Portuguese stage for quite a while (almost eight years) helped to the party mood, but it was the band’s grip and performance that take the most credit. Not even the high pitches that Hansen exchanged for low ones, probably because he knew he couldn’t reach them, did any damage to the remarkable impression they left in the crowd, from “Rebellion In Dreamland” to the recent “Master Of Confusion”. And, of course, the awaited HELLOWEEN covers (songs that Hansen wrote for his former band), “Future World” and “I Want Out”. In the first one, in order to make the crowd scream the chorus louder, Hansen said that some people lived indeed in the “future world”, but others did so “in Smurfland or somewhere over the rainbow”. And with that he managed to get the volume he desired to hear.
“To The Metal” and “Send Me A Sign” were the last songs, and like other bands in this festival, GAMMA RAY promised to come back soon. «
