The edition of 2022 of Vagos Metal Fest will be remembered for several highlights, but the first time of iconic EMPEROR in Portugal will, for sure, be the highest. Yes, the crimes in which some of their members were involved in the past gave them some notoriety among the black metal community in the nineties, but it’s the excellence of their music that will always prevail – and the proof resides in concerts such as this one in Vagos where, without any need of visual impact, the crowd went nuts just as the instrumental intro of “In The Nightside Eclipse” echoed.
After calling it quits in 2001, a decade after being acknowledged as legends and two occasional reunions, the Norwegian came back in 2016 for something more permanent in terms of live performances. There’s no new material to promote, but what the fans really want is a whole set of classics such as “Inno A Satana”, “The Loss And Curse Of Reverence” or “Ye Entrancemperium”, which wrapped the show. One could almost say that EMPEROR were the headliners of the festival and not just the last day.
