I had seen SOLDIER at VOA 2016 (see here); another record (“The Sleeping Of Reason”) and another guitar player (Dmitry Stalingrado), but nothing much has changed in these three years. But thrash is just like that and lack of innovation isn’t always a bad thing.The performance was very spirited, both in the energetic sense of the word (especially bass player Pei Garcia, who ran that stage through and through) as well in its cheerful sense (funny faces and smiles).
Close to the end, Phil González put his guitar down and only sang, saying that would be their best song as he didn’t play on it. It was said in English but with our consent, as right after the initial greeting, in a Spanish-y Portuguese, Phil asked if he could address us in English and no one said no.
