Whoever grew up in Portugal between the late eighties and early nineties know who PESTE & SIDA (plague & AIDS) are, even if only by name – although I find it hard to believe that they know, at least, “Sol da Caparica”. In fact, even the younger ones sang along the chorus of this hymn; but that doesn’t indicate context knowledge, so João San Payo asked us to explain the youngsters what plague and AIDS were.
They kicked off with “Alerta Geral”, a track that SIMBIOSE covered in a tribute to the veteran punk rock band (“Tributo a Peste & Sida – 25 Anos de Veneno”) and so SIMBIOSE–Johnie was the one who sang it. Ricardo Barrigas – the guitarist so many times invited to play along that everyone already see him as a full-time member – was also there, glorifying the nostalgia of all those other classics such as “Veneno”, “Bule Bule”, “Está na Tua Mão” or, of course, “Orgia Paroquial”.
